Porsche Cayenne Transyberia in The Canal
The Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone has an Off Road Course that tests the ability of Porsche’s off road machine to the full.
The history of this course is interesting. Porsche have leased the site from the BRDC (British Racing Car Club) and when the BRDC and Porsche met for the official “signing of the papers”, it transpired (almost in passing) that incidentally the old Land Rover off road course was part of the deal.
Not long afterwards, we walked around the off road course that we had inherited from the King of Off Road and as you would expect found some excellent features for us to use with our Cayenne’s: Two 46° Side Slope’s and two Steep mounds, one leading into a pond were two of the delights. We added a long mound made from the soil excavated to form the tracks for the sports cars and made a 1:1 hill (Serengeti we called it) and a snaking rock climb (Van Zyl’s after that famous pass in the north west of Namibia) with it. Since the initial build we have added a rock section that lifts the wheels high into the air (Umba Rocks named after the track that Impala uses in The Kola Peninsula) and a twisting track to teach our clients a bit about the importance of using the steering wheel correctly.
This picture shows the Cayenne in the water trough which the other consultants at Porsche named The Canal, as to them it seemed crazy to drive a vehicle into and along its length!!
