The story behind this picture of my Series IIa 88” Land Rover somewhere in Todra Gorge is a very interesting one, especially as Impala Adventures and all that that entails is the result of the adventure that both my brother Mano and I had in Morocco in that excellent little ancient Land Rover.

The adventure in question was The Warn Adventure in Morocco. Mano and I had won the Warn Challenge in England with our old Land Rover, beating more modern and better equipped Land Rover’s, Mercedes G-Wagens, Toyota Land Cruisers and Daihatsu’s on our way to a popular victory. The prize for winning was a place in the Warn Adventure in Morocco, which we took happily without really working out if we had the time or money to compete in. We did not , but sometimes you just have to go for the challenge and experience and concern yourself with the pennies some other time.

The Challenge itself was a lot of fun and had some very memorable moments, one or two that I shall relate here:

In the Cedar Forest we came across a broken down G-Wagen. A very dusty pair of brothers in their Series 2a with the canvas down pulled up alongside and asked “I say, would you like any help?” The immaculately clean German who was bent over the engine, stood up and replied “no thank you, we are all right” we replied “oh jolly good” and roared off in a cloud of dust.

Later on that same day we came across an American stuck on a track in I believe a Dodge that was at least three times bigger than our Land Rover so we just waved cheerily and said hello as we pulled off into the forest and drove around them, much to their astonishment and annoyance!!

As far as the picture is concerned the track, the exciting challenging track that wound its way up the gorge, criss-crossing the river, has now become a tarmac road. We had some of the best off road days in Morocco we did.

Mano and I had so much fun and adventure in the desert and mountains of Morocco that we decided that the only way that we could afford to get back there was to take paying clients across its landscapes and that in a nutshell is how Impala Adventures got started.
